Athlone High School and obtained a BA. LLB at the University of Western Cape and her LLM degree and certificate in Labour Law at the University of Cape Town. She practiced as an attorney at her own firm from 1990 to 2005, and was appointed to the Western Cape Bench on January 1, 2006.
